Dr. Mark Morris Sr. Our History: Hill Food was started by Dr. Mark Morris, an exceptional veterinarian. He believed that we should take pet care as seriously as our own hygiene habits. Given the relationship between malnutrition and disease in pets, Dr. Mark Morris developed a pet food that was way better than any other food on the market. The turning point for Dr. Morris came when he met a blind man named Morris Frank and his beloved guide dog Buddy. Paddy was suffering from kidney disease and sought Dr. Morris' help. Dr. Morris knew that because many of the commercial pet foods available at the time were high in phosphorous and protein to make them taste better, feeding them could harm the kidneys. So, he set out to develop a food that was low in salt, but high in flavor and nutritional value. This food became Hill's Prescription Diet kd™, which became Hill's first commercially available pet food. It helped Maurice and Buddy enjoy many happy years together. That's why we think Buddy is the Hill's first-ever pet.
